Excuse me, but the Army are the only people who don’t know a 7mm bullet of 120-130 grains’ weight at 2500-2600 fps is the correct formula. The Pedersen and Garand were designed for such cartridges, though with modern propellants a better one could be made. Will the Pentagon be ready to fight WW II if we give them another ten or twenty years?
Now, that’s not entirely fair. WWII was not the problem. As a matter of fact, those bullets we designed to kill Soviet soldiers through steel helmets over long distances. As to the rest, yes. (Pop D: Casey is right now too, that’s the point.) Last I heard, they wanted to train for better marksmanship (apparently the current training allows soldiers to hit anywhere, location within the target being unimportant, no comment). The argument being larger ammo is heavier and causes a greater recoil. There’s also some debate about barrel length (longer means faster means better).
